Abstract
Individual identification procedure is one of the most important part in medicolegal field. So various methods, eg. examination of blood groups, fingerprints, hairs, teeth, external and internal characteristics, etc. have been utillzed to confirm the personal identity.
Recently, radiological investigation methods have been widely applicated to the medicolegal field for the purpose of individual identification.
So the authors attempted to classify the types of frontal sinus by the radiological patterns and also investigated the distributions of types in Korean population by the analysis of 510 cases of simple A-P skull films.
The results could be summarized as follows.
1) The radiological patterns of frontal sinus could be classified into 13 types by their
location, number and relations, namely, O, Ll, Rl, B1, B2U, B2D, B3U, B3D, B4U, B4D,
B5U, B5D and B6U type(O ; zero, L ; left, R ; right, B ; bilateral, 1, 2¡¦ ; number,U ; united, D ; divided)
2) The most frequent type was B2U and revealed 36.7%, then B2D, 20.0%, B1, 12.7%, B3U, 11.2% O 9.2%, B4U, 2.7%, L1, 2.5%, R1, 2.0%, B3D, 1.8% B5U, 0.6% and B4D, B5D, B6U types were 0.2% in frequent order
3) In this study could not demonstrate certain types such as L2, L3¡¦, R2, R3¡¦types, B6D and B7, B8 ect.
4) There was no statistical differences in type distribution between male and female.
